The Actor’s Studio: An Advanced Acting Class for Emerging Artists

Young adults (ages 14-18) who are passionate about learning sophisticated acting training skills are invited to the Actor’s Studio! The Studio Model will build a safe, creative, and challenging environment in which teens will connect as an ensemble learning to trust, support, and collaborate with one another. Fueled by their collective high energy and unique artistic voices, students will explore classic acting techniques (Method Acting, Laban movement, Character Building, etc.) as well as free-form exercises designed to develop ensemble, confidence, and courage. Students will infuse their learning into scene study and monologue performance work.

Instructor Scott Shallenbarger served as Highland Park High School’s Director of Theatre Arts for 33 years and received the 2017 Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching. Scott is inspired to share his expertise as theatre educator, professional director, and published playwright with emerging student performers; he, above all, values a space for teenagers to create, grow, live, and laugh through the transformative nature of theatre.
