SUMMER WORKSHOPS - Register Today

  • Acting Intensive with George Keating meets Thursdays, July 9 - July 30 from 5-6:30 pm. For 5th graders and up. COST: $165.
    Prepare your acting skills and listening skills George will lead students to work as an ensemble to discover impulse and sensory awareness. As always, techniques will be physical: NO FLIP FLOPS.
  • Improv Workshop with Joe Dempsey meets Saturday, Aug 15 from 10 am-12 pm. For 5th - 9th graders. COST: $40.
  • Build Your Musical Theatre Tool Kit with Stacey Flaster & Liz Fauntleroy meets Sunday, Aug 30 from 1-3:30 pm. For 5th - 9th graders. COST: $150.
    This class will tackle how to audition. Learn how to choose and act the song, put together your headshot/resume and songbook and learn how to walk into the room. This class will prepare you for any upcoming musical audition! PLEASE PREPARE two 32 bar cuts of two songs. Bring sheet music in your key, your headshot (or picture) and a resume (list of shows and training). An accompanist will be provided.

    Do you LOVE movies like "Pitch Perfect"? Now, you can experience the excitement of acapella music for yourself! No instruments will be used in this unique, self-accompanied, exciting musical style! The group will cover many eras of music, especially current pop hits!
  • New ImageThe Studio with George Keating for the advanced actor meets Mondays from 7-8:30 pm from Sept 14 - Nov 30 (ongoing . . . no class Oct 19, Nov 9). For 7th - 9th graders BY AUDITION ONLY - AUGUST 16, 1:15-4 PM. For audition slot & information, email theperformersschool1@gmail.com. COST: $345 for the first 10 weeks.
    This is a rigorous class for the serious and disciplined acting student. Acting skills will be taught in a setting which emphasizes group work, with an ultimate goal of performance. Training will be physical. A high level of concentration will be necessary. The class will culminate in a minimally produced classroom performance, possibly in spring. Students will use their bodies and voices in new ways to create a personal and imaginative production celebrating the individual members that make up the selected group. Rehearsal will take place during class hours, but students will need time outside of class to memorize and review.
  • 7 Shows in 7 Days with George Keating & Zach Gray meets Fridays from 4-6 pm from Sept 11 - Oct 23. For 6th - 8th graders. COST: $275.
    Each class focuses on one show. Discuss the history & roots of the show, characters & their context within the show, learn choreography and work scenes from the show. A great way to get to know new shows and understand how much research is needed to prepare to audition for a show!

FALL CLASSES: ON CAMERA - Register Today

  • New ImageOn Camera with Adria Dawn meets Saturdays from 12:30-2 pm for 3rd - 5th graders and 2:30-4 pm for 6th - 8th graders, both from Sept 5 - Oct 10. COST: $250.
    Learn the basics of on-camera acting technique with Adria Dawn, veteran film and television actress known for her work in Hollywood. The course covers everything from slating, scale, marks and eye lines, while students learn a solid foundation of auditioning for commercials, TV and film.
  • Filmmaking for Social Change with Adria Dawn meets Saturdays from 12-3 pm on Oct 17, 24, 31 & Nov 7. Shoot dates are Nov 14 & 15 from 12-5 pm. Premiere on Sunday, Dec 6 at 11 am. For 6th - 9th graders. COST: $485.
    With the success of previous class films, “Bystander” (anti-bullying) and “Excluded” (social exclusion), Adria Dawn will be back to collaborate with students to make a new short film that centers around the topic of peer pressure. Together the class will learn the process of filmmaking and on-camera film acting through the creation of a film, including writing, preproduction, casting, production and a final screening.
  • New ImageScreenwriting with Colin Magill Somers meets Saturdays from 10 am - 12 pm from Sept 5 - Nov 21. For 6th - 9th graders. No prior screenwriting experience needed! COST: $420.
    This 12 week class is designed for students with little or no experience in screenwriting. The course introduces kids to the craft and tools of dramatic film writing… in a fun way! Students will work together in groups to understand the fundamental elements of a script, including: theme, character, plot, dialogue, 3-act structure, and much more! Proper screenplay format will be taught. By the end of the course, students will have completed a screenplay made for a short film. Some writing and/or movie viewing outside of class will be required.

Tap 1 (Beginner/Intermediate) For Ages 9 and up with Laura Savage

Meets Tuesdays from 5-6 pm. Ongoing. Class will focus on solidifying the basic steps of tap to help build a strong foundation, proper technique, and to help learn combinations for auditions. Tap is great for rhythm and gaining the ability to pick up combinations. Musicals almost always require strong tap ability! Follow this up with the musical theatre dance class for a well-rounded dance experience.

Musical Theatre Dance For Ages 10 and up with Laura Savage

Meets Tuesdays from 6-7:15 pm. Ongoing. Learn dances from popular musicals. Have fun in this high energy class! It's ideal to take both dance classes on Tuesday: tap and then this musical theatre dance class for a well-rounded dance experience. A great way to get better at learning how to memorize sequences quickly! Strong technique not required.

Advanced Tap with Laura Savage

BY INSTRUCTOR RECOMMENDATION ONLY. Meets Tuesdays from 7:15-8:15 pm. Ongoing. Students who want to register for this class must be able to do pullbacks; single/double/triple time steps; wings. Musicals almost always require strong tap ability, so this is the class to take to stand out from the rest! Combine this with the musical theatre dance class for a well-rounded dance experience.

Ballet For Ages 10 and up with Monica Halloran

Meets Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 pm. Ongoing. First class is Sept 2. Students will be introduced to ballet techniques...and more!

Meets Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30 pm. Ongoing. First class is Sept 2. What fun!

Tumbling For Ages 8 and up with Jeremiah O'Connor

Meets Saturdays from 10-11 am. Ongoing. First class is Sept 5. Class starts with a warm-up followed by mobilization and stretching, then moving into basic gymnastics skills such as rolls, handstands, cartwheels, walkovers and handsprings. All skills will be practiced individually as well as incorporated into tumbling sequences.

Circus Arts For Ages 8 and up with Jeremiah O'Connor

Meets Saturdays from 11 am-12 pm. First class is Sept 5. Students will be introduced to partner acrobatics, extreme flexibility and stretching (contortionism) and tumbling. Skills will be practiced with a focus on safe and consistently sensational presentation. And if you like tumbling, think about adding the tumbling class at 10 to your Saturday morning!

COLLEGE PREP WITH LIZ & STACEY

When applying for Musical Theatre programs at universities, most colleges require two contrasting monologues and two 16-32 bar cuts of contrasting songs. Some even require short video clips of choreography and dance technique. This task can seem daunting and overwhelming. We can help! Stacey and Liz will help guide you to choose material for your child's college audition, and coach your child so he or she can get into that dream school! Contact us directly to set up appointments.

THE PERFORMER’S SCHOOL POLICIES – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.

NOTE: The Performer’s School strives to provide students with the best professional training. Since our teachers are working professionals, they may sometimes need to have a substitute teacher fill in. The Performer’s School selects top professionals in the field to work with our students.

PAYMENT & REGISTRATION
  • Registration requires that either payment in full or a non-refundable deposit ($250 for summer camps; $50 for all other classes) accompany the enrollment form.

  • Registration options for classes that meet over several weeks (summer camps excluded) include (1) signing up for the full session, or (2) signing up individual sessions at $30 per session (1-hour classes) or $50 per session (2-hour classes). There is no prorating nor is it possible to convert a class registration to a per-session registration once the class has started.

  • Payment in full is due two (2) weeks before the class begins. Registrations after that date must include payment in full and are not eligible for any refund.

  • Please make checks payable to The Performer's School, Inc. and mail to Stacey Flaster, 593 Warbler Court, Highland Park, IL 60035.
REFUNDS
  • TPS will refund 50% of the paid class fee only if notification of the cancellation has been received at least 15 days before the class begins. You may choose to have the refund amount issued to you by check or have the refund amount credited towards a future class.
  • TPS will not refund any monies received if notification of the cancellation is received 14 days or less before the class begins regardless of the reason for the cancellation.
ATTENDANCE
  • Please arrive on time and stay until the class ends.
  • If your student will miss a class due to illness or an unexpected reason, please email Stacey ASAP at stacey@theperformersschool.com
CLASS CANCELLATION
  • The Performer's School, Inc. reserves the right to cancel classes/workshops if minimum enrollment is not reached 7 days prior to the first session of the class/workshop, or for any other reason. All monies paid will be refunded in full. You may choose to have the refund amount issued to you by check or have the refund amount credited towards a future class.
