Audition Only Class – 2nd semester audition OPEN NOW to secure an appointment email info@theperformersschool.com

Audition Date DEC 12th from 7-8pm

FOR THE ADVANCED ACTOR

This is a rigorous class for the serious and disciplined acting student. Acting skills will be taught in a setting which emphasizes group work, with an ultimate goal of performance.

Training will be physical. A high level of concentration will be necessary. The class will culminate in a minimally produced classroom performance, possibly in spring. Students will use their bodies and voices in new ways to create a personal and imaginative production celebrating the individual members that make up the selected group. Rehearsal will take place during class hours, but students will need time outside of class to memorize and review.

2nd semester registration is only for admitted students. Please visit the Register and pay link at the bottom of the page.

Spring Session Dates
Mondays
January 9th – May 22nd
(No class Jan 16, Feb 20, March 27, April 10, May 1 and May 8 )

7:00 – 8:30 pm
7th through 12th grade ONLY
Cost: $495 (14 weeks)

What to prepare-Admittance is by audition only.
This audition is for students who are not currently enrolled in Studio.
***Wear comfortable clothing and shoes.  Do not wear “audition” clothes.  Comfortable dance clothing would be appropriate, but not necessary.  Athletic clothing would be appropriate.  You will break a sweat.***
I am looking for advanced actors whom I can guide to explore language and physical movement and who are willing to discover meaning beyond the superficial.
I am looking for potential, not a finished product.
This audition will be fun.  Think of it like a free acting class.  I want to see you and get to know you as a young artist.
Instructions:
  1. Read all 5 poems.
  2. Pick the one you like best.  Follow your gut.  I will ask you why you chose it.
  3. Look up any words you do not know or understand.
  4. Memorize the one poem that you chose.  Know it “inside and out” and “backwards and forwards” so that we can explore it in many different ways.  Say it out loud as you memorize it.
    1. During the audition workshop you will use the words of this poem over and over in many different contexts. While you must understand the poem, and know why you chose it (i.e. a feeling it gives you, an image that it brings to mind, you like the sound or the rhythm of the words themselves), I will not ask you to perform it the way you would a monologue.
    2. We will all work together in groups, so you will be saying these poems in front of others who are auditioning.
Poem #1
Far from the day
falls the night
where dreams and dark deeds
now creep into one
denying the sun
ever knew them

Poem #2
Though round and round
you are bound to go
confused and worn
the day has come
to finally hear
your truth

Poem #3
Do not fear
your light rising
as your shadow wanes
Until you know
what longing lies
beneath your soul
you won’t let flow
your destiny

Poem #4
You are ready
and you know the way
You feel the moment join~
lives in motion
souls are met
actions lap
against a net
of time

Poem #5
Waiting is not easy
but wait is what I do
day to night
year to year
waking only
by his light

Parents in past workshops appreciate George’s very candid, honest approach to this subject. Bring all of your questions and concerns.
